Slu Ranch
About Us
My name is Sarah and my family and I raise these wonderful goats. We are very blessed
with all the friends we have who are there to help and support us. Many thanks to you all!
Most babies are dam raised, but are handled now and again. Most are not super friendly
since I do not raise them on a bottle. We have kids that are bred for show, thickness, milk
quality, for loud colors and/or pets. I am not against selling some for meat, although I
prefer to give the kids with great personalities a chance to go to a good home.
They are raised on pasture, alfalfa, and grain. We do not feed grain year round. They also
get treats of fruits and vegetables. They are treated for worms as needed as we do not want
to have a resistance built up. And every kid that is dehorned or not, gets a CD&T shot. Every
other year we re-vaccinate the herd with CD&T.
We do not test our herd unless needed. We can do so at the buyer's expense. Our nubian
bucks have been tested for G6S and are negative, or negative on progeny. The majority of
the does come from a herd that is negative through and through.
I do not believe in testing my animals for other conditions anymore for personal reasons and
beliefs. I have in the past, but will not do so anymore. I do not care for tests where there
are ifs, buts and maybes. Throughout the years my herd has been exposed to CL and CAE (I
am mentioning these 2 specifically due to consumer's concerns towards these ailments). I
found out a doe of mine was given the CL vaccine, so therefor all my herd has been exposed.
Many years ago I discovered, when I first started, that a doe of mine had CAE. Then I tested
the whole herd and found some of my precious bottle raised goats were infected. I found
out later that there can be false positives and the test isn't 100%. I was furious because I
was never told that by my vet and I had gotten rid of those animals. That is the short story
of why I do not test.
Our animals lead good, natural, healthy as can be lifestyles.
